概要 In this research we conducted an experiment to examine these tendencies, using picture cards. We asked English, Japanese and Chinese native speakers to describe the events on the picture cards freely, and then we compared the way of describing the events. The result of experiment shows certain differences in tendencies of their language preferences of construals, especially with regards to which participant of the event the speaker focuses on and from whose perspective the event is described. Through exploring the differences of contruals preferred in each language, we claim it is necessary to take those distinctions into English language teaching. No matter how well English learners can translate or use English-native like expressions, phrases, or compositions, it is not enough. They need to learn how English native speakers construe the world.
