概要 | In order to implement good CLIL lessons in Japan, we should recognize the differences between the European and Japanese contexts. One of the big differences is that teachers in Europe are often qualified to teach two school subjects, and oftentimes "an EFL teacher teaches his/her 'other subject' through the medium of English" (Dalton-Puffer, 2007). In Japan, junior or senior high school teachers are usually qualified to teach only one school subject, which generally means that in these schools an English teacher can teach English only in English classes and a science teacher can teach science only in science classes. Considering the Japanese context explained above, this session discussed 1) who should teach CLIL lessons in Japan, 2) what capacities CLIL teachers should have, and 3) how we can get more teachers (especially subject teachers) to implement CLIL. |
