概要 This paper examined JSL curricula in English-based undergraduate programs, focusing on 37 Top Global Universities. These universities were selected for the “Top Global University Project” (2014), which includes some pioneer EDP schools from the previous “Global 30 Project” (2008). The author categorized their JSL curricula into six categories and analyzed interview data with faculty and staff regarding their goals and achievements. The result shows that most programs require Japanese, which, however, has been changing with a rising number of programs which offer it among their electives and also intentionally do not establish specific goals. This paper concludes that Japanese language education offered in the EDP programs in Japan is in transition from unanimously preparing students for future employment to accommodating those with various needs and levels of proficiency.
