| 概要 | Japanese culture and language allows speakers to make (or demands that they make) many semantically subtle—but formally obvious—distinctions in expressions of respect and humility. The main function of these forms is to recognize the relative status of the participants in the conversation, and those they are talking about. This session will focus on other ways to be polite that are based on psychological distance and courtesy rather than relative status. |
