概要 | The terminal nerve (TN)-GnRH neurons have been suggested to function as a neuromodulatory system that regulates the motivational and arousal state of the animal. The analysis of the neural inputs to TN-GnRH neurons which alter their pacemaker activity is important to understand their functions. I showed that the GABA(A) receptor-mediated responses are excitatory to the pacemaker activity of the TN-GnRH neurons in the adult dwarf gourami, which is contrary to most neurons in the adult brain. Also I found that FMRFamide/NPFF, a putative cotransmitter of TN-GnRH neurons, has inhibitory effect on the pacemaker activity of TN-GnRH neurons. These results suggest that both glutamate and GABA may mediate the excitatory inputs and that the intense activation of these inputs may induce the somatodendritic release of GnRH (excitatory) and FMRFamide-like peptide (inhibitory), which are suggested to differentially regulate the pacemaker activity of TN-GnRH neurons. |
